Default Need sport atv advice

I am looking to buy a new quad, but i dont' know what kind. I love racing and going fast, but i also ride a lot of tight trails w/ my utility atv buddies, but i don't ever mud. Right now i am riding a modded wolverine, but it just isn't sporty enough anymore. I like the yfz450 and the 450r but neither of the 2 have a reverse. I have considered the 400z/kfx400 or the v-force. Any comments or suggestions would be helpful

Well with you riding trails, reverse could come in handy...but the yfz is so light you could just turn it around yourself. A lot of people talk bad about the V because of it being auto which is "not sport like". All 3 are probably good trail bikes, and have the speed your looking for. I was going for a KFX400, but figured I might as well spend the extra $$$ for the V Force. With any of these, I'm sure you'd be satisfied.

I ride a Bombardier DS650 and love it. I also ride a little bit of everything and like to jump. The only downside is no reverse. If you are looking for some speed, versitility, AND reverse, you should consider the Yamaha Raptor. I have riden them and they seem to handle well in almost every situation. Of course my DS is a lot faster, but if you must have reverse the Raptor is the way to go.

the ltz/kfx 400's are very nice bikes. good power, very good handling, and of course, reverse. they are also 1-2 thousand dollars cheaper than the yfz and trx 450 bikes.

the 700 v force is a very good trail and dune bike. with the automatic transmission, its is more of a cruiser than a straight up racer, but is still very fast. they are just short of a yamaha raptor and bomb ds, probably about the same or faster than a polaris 500 pred. I will say that I love having the reverse on my quad. it comes in handy more times than you might think.

if you plan on drag racing, look at the raptor or kfx 700
if you plan on mx racing, look at the kfx/ltz 400's
if you plain on just trail riding, any of those bikes, all with reverse, would be great. the best advice i can give you is to ride as many as you can. A few minutes on the quad will really help in deciding what you do and dont like.

The 400's are great trail bikes. Descent power and excellent handling. The V has great power, but isn't particularly agile (big, top heavy, really just a 2X4 utility without the racks) and what's with the no engine braking unless you are on the gas??? Your Wolverine is certainly more agile than the V. I have put in quite a few hours on the YFZ, and can't figure out what all the fuss is about??? Have not ridden the TRX yet.

Right now if I was buying a new sport, I would get a z400 or KFX400.
Best value for the dollar. Good speed, agile, good acceleration
and plentiful mods available to give you more of all.

Used, I would be looking for a modded 400EX that hasn't been raced.
They can be had for good prices, as lots of owners are looking to buy a 450R.
I saw a 2001 416EX with low hours on a new rebuild and lots of good mods
go for $2800 in Dec. Kinda wish I had bought it. LOL
