I'm looking into buying a used 4-Wheeler. The DS650 is one I was considering. My main question is, was there any major/minor problems with the early DS's? Any major changes, besides the 04'? Any help would be great.

 

Some of the 00 and 01 models had problems with fans. I have replaced 5 under warrenty. With one year left on extended warrenty.

 

I own a 2000 ds and the only thing I had trouble with is needed to update my carb w/ some 01 parts, slide spring, pilot jet from 37.5 to 45, and the sloch bowl around the main.
also the upper roller on the for the chain goes bad, mine was replased b4 I bought it and never had a problem since.

I heard that the 2000's had some handling problems..is this true?

 

when I got mine it had the Kenda tires there junk, it did felt a little twitchy, I put a set of 400ex tiers all around and the twitchness was gone. the taller front tire helped the handling alot. and the rears made it grab like crazy, thats why Bombardier went to the Ohtsu tires cause they work! the kends spun alot kinda like a banshee does. now it handles just like any other quad Ive owend ( 400EX 250R) JMO

the only handling problem is that it gets twitchy at high speeds but i don't think its that big of a problem, otherwise i've had no serious problems wit it(that wasn't caused by me), just some cheap stuff you may need to do but nothin major

 

My 2000 did have handling problems in sand, changed aarms, problem solved
