Safety Flags and Poles

Ya I was looking to see what else was out there. The "Q" whip is the only thing close to what I want. I think stainless steel is the way to go as long as the mounting system wont break on a rollover. Plus, I would like one with a flag what wont rip to shreads after just a few rides. The RipRods are cheap, but they sure break easy! You'd probably spend more with those than a good quality flag assembly.

I use a coupler mounted to the grab bar. and the male end drilled to fit on flag. kinda like air fittings. but hydraulic instead because they fit together tighter than air fittings. we use them on five different qauds. have only had problems with one.

KC,
Thanks! I'm glad you like it. The trick with the stainless steel is to have enough flag at the top to slow that action down so you don't get beat up by it. Also, a tapered steel pole, thicker at the bottom than at the top, also curbs that type of action.

When I used to have my 250r 3 wheeler, I went through alot of whips! I have tried everything from thick and thin fiberglass to Stainless. The easiest whip to break is the fiberglass whips that have a hollow core for a wire to power a light on top. I have even bent Stainless whips. My current setup is my favorite. I use the quick release whip mount from RIS Designs, I believe on dunes sales them too. I use the cheapest thin fiberglass whip I can find and when it does break, it breaks right above the mount, so all you do is loosen up the mount, pull out the broken 2" of whip and put back in the remainder of the whip.

I also use a clamping quick release. it makes it very easy to just reinsert the flag after a break. I have found it is handy to carry a pocket knife to clean the splinters off after a break.
Since I'm 6'6", I break the flag with my *** more than I do anything else. ( wait that sounded bad.... .lol)

I went a very different route with my flags. I have fiberglass buggy whips - these are MCUH more stout than an ATV whip and if I roll the quad over it's time to buy a new whip for sure. The reason I bought these was I was tired of getting whacked by my whip & I also wanted something that I could really light up. As long as I don't roll the quad, I think these are the best, however it'll be a clean $45 mistake if I do roll the quad! (Unless I get really lucky!)

I've looked at several styles of whips. From large diameter fiberglass and even steel to thin stainless steel. I've finnally settled on tapered stainless steel. The large diameter steel dont break like the fiberglass, but they are so stiff the mount can break. But the problem with those larger diameter poles is that the the flags get beat up in a hurry when going through the trees. The thin steel ones do whip you in the back of the head. It would seem to me that tapered is the way to go. Flexible on top, but stiff on the bottom - protects the flag and your head!
