Hey everyone, need a little help here. My buddy has an 03 Predator and 3rd gear let go this weekend at the dunes. He said he was going along just fine and it all of a sudden locked up killing the motor. He started it back up and it ran fine. Shifted in to 1st no problem 2nd no problem, then got to 3rd and nothing, it just revved to the moon. No grinding or strange noise or anything. Has anyone else had this problem yet? Where can we get our hands on a service manual that would help us with a rebuild? We plan on doing any work ourselves. Sorry this was so long, any help would be appreciated.

You can get the manual at your dealer, the polaris one is the best... Humm, Hozed had his tranny go bad i think it was 3rd gear too.. From what i hear polaris no matter if its in warranty or not they are fixing 03s for free thats if i under stand it right...

This has been a problem for some and Polaris knows about it. They have beefed up the trannies for 04 and have released an update for the 03's. More than likely it is the shift fork. I have heard of Polaris covering this out of warrenty for some people

we have already contacted Polaris and they say not covered. Would it still shift into all the other gears if it was the shift fork?

Yes, it would still shift. Just no 3rd gear due to the 3rd gear shift fork may have got bent. Does he power shift at all? I would talk to your dealer and raise some hell. I know for a fact that Polaris has covered trannies and frames that were out of warrenty

 

I have it narrowed down to the 04 Predator if I get a sport bike, or maybe a grizzly or the new suzuki king quad that will be comming out if I decide to get a utiliy. I am not to sure yet. I have the PDF of the complete Polaris manual on my computer, I just can't remember where I got it, its a big file or i would just send it to ya. I will try and find somewhere for you, but so you know it is the same one you would buy, so don't waste the cash!

 

From what I have heard they should covered it as BigBad said, thats one of the reasons I want a Pred, since they seem good about making things right with buyers...
