new ds motors?
#1
i am in the middle of switching over to the kms turbo set up on my ds. i really don't want to tear my 760 apart and make it ready for boost (new piston ect) plus all the fuel mapping for the larger engine would have to be run on there dyno 1200 miles from here, so i was looking to trade out of it for a stockish ds motor and some $$$ i have some pm's to answer about trades, but i also wanted to know if i just sold my 760 outright how much a new stock motor from bombardier would run. called my dealer and was quoted $4500 you can buy a new 04' ds for $5300 so is there anyone else out there that has a better idea where to get one for less? thanks jeff.

Jeff,
I was thinking yesterday that I might put my Engine for sale. I 've thinking of putting a new style EFI street bike motor in as a new prodject, just to have something different. I'm a little worried about the Fabrication work, cause I wouldnt want to even attempt a project like this, unless I could make it look Factory.

lost alot of sleep these last few nights tying to decide what direction to go? stock motor with turbo is about 55hp @ the tire. my motor with different piston about 80hp or more. today finding out that a new motor is $4500 from bombardier hurt some. the real big draw back with my motor w/turbo is the fuel mapping would need to be recalculated at kms in phoenix 1900 miles from me, so i am waiting for a sign from the atv gods which way to go

Jeffroe, for less than 4500 you can pick up a used ds and part out everything you dont need or want. The frame can get u the most money on parting out. MIght help you make some of the money back you will have to spend to buy a used DS.
Bombardier wants way to much for just a motor.

yes the motors for the 2000-2001's were only $2000 but now are discontinued? so now only the 2003-2004 motors are available dresses complete with all electronics and carb. i am looking for a 2nd stock ds for trail riding in the mud and keep my other one for dunes, but there are not alot of used ds's around here.

About a year ago they were selling new motors for $1900 not sure why but they were. I think I would lean towards the 760 turbo, but if they never did a 760 turbo, I would hate to be the first.. So why do you want to go from a 80 HP ds to a 55 HP ds ? Wouldn't your DS have better all around power? ...I got the solution get a 2004 turbo ds, and keep yours too!

If I were you , I would keep your PAMI,and use it for your Turbo.UNLESS someone wants to give you 6-7G's for your motor. I know you'll still be loosing money, but that would be a fair price. I know your motor has the very best of everything in it,and on it.
However, I also think it would be the ultimate motor to turbo charge. Your motor has been balanced and has all the HD stuff inside to handle the Turbo. Isnt AZsand getting is 760 turbo'ed??? or is he using a stock motor?
On the bright side, you could sell your CARBS,CAMS,PISTONand PIPE(cause you will have to change those anyways) and that money will get you you EFI system!

the plan was to have a sick modded ds for dune trips (3 a year planned) and a bone stocker for wisconsin trail slop . i was thinking that by trading down to a stock motor and putting in some stronger parts i could acheave more horse power thru added boost than my current 760 makes? (sounds good on paper) but not knowing what kind of stock motor i would get in trade kind of scares me, and the price of a new motor just went thru the roof. so maybe a low compression piston and a trip to phoenix might be the next step.

take the piston out bring it to a reputable auto machine shop and have the raised portion cut down to give you the compression ratio you want, maybe 10:1 or 9:1.
use a GT15 turbo for a huge 760 motor not GT12.

Another Idea!!!!!!!!
Have you thought about talking to SCOOBY and see if he might be interested in doing an even SWAP???
I dont know if he will ever be able to use that turbo up thier in NY, his DS is set-up for sand . and he may want to get a Motor that he can trail ride with??
Scooby's Turbo setup is PERFECT,and he has ALL the bugs worked out. And we all know ITS fast, but now its very reliable too.
Just a thought.
