Default Polaris Sport/ Won't Climb!!!

I have a 1997 Polaris Sport 400, recently I while riding, i was following a couple of my buddies. There was a kawasaki praire in front, me, a blaster, then a banshee. We went up a small hill the Praire climbed it no problem. but when i went up it, about half way there it wouldn't move, i had it full throddle! My tires weren't spinning either. Any suggestions?

Was there any smoke or a smell of burnt rubber? Sounds like you may have smoked your belt

It could also be that the buttons are shot in the secondary.

its the belt or if you had ridden through any water, the water could have gotten in the the belt would have slipped. just my input but i'd say id have to be the belt. I have a small crack in the top of the plastic transmission case and water got in there from the rain while rideing and wouldn't back up or go up hills... that sucked .

If you install a new belt make sure you clean the sheaves thoroughly with soap and water or very fine sand paper, also a good idea to wash the new belt to get the factory residue off, then blow out all the old belt dust from both sheaves. for those with water problems, I just installed a steel valve stem on the cover for a drain and it works great!
