Default 600 blew head gasket

My 2003 600 blew a head gasket in December while plowing snow and started consuming coolant like it was going out of style. It was purchased in March, so the 6 month warranty had expired. It has 400 miles and about 100 hours---I'm guessing to some degree on the hours--I'd like your opinions and experience on this subject.

Polaris would not cover the repairs, except parts. I don't know what a head gasket costs, but the labor cost me $160.00. The dealer gave me some song and dance about how I should complain to Polaris as I had more leverage with them than the dealer did. I just paid the bill and took it home as it was snowing and I needed to move snow. It has run fine since.

Do you think it is worth by time to call Polaris, or maybe simply e-mail them? Anyone have a similar experience?

Needless to say I feel Polaris should stand behind thier products a little better than this. It was clearly a mechanical failure and the dealer even told me that a service bulletin had come out since I purchased mine telling the dealers to torque the head bolts to a greater degree.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Mike

I would definitely contact Polaris! I would recomend calling them instead of sending an email - - - - it is easier to deliver bad news by mail, than it is to do the same thing on the phone. At least on the phone you would have a better chance of making your case. As always, be polite and reasonable, but insist on satisfaction From a PR standpoint, they would be foolish not to help you out. Just my $.02

Mike, I would definitly be calling polaris if I were you, they were very reluctant to step in and help me when I was having troubles
with my 600 unless the dealer stumbled...finally my dealer got it fixed after almost 2 weeks, but had they not polaris stated they
would step in and make it right. I did recieve several discounts/coupons from polaris, and ever since my dealer has offered to
pursue warranty for any further problems I might have....even though my warranty went out in november. I would definitly call
them just to see what they will do. I would think the dealer would have tried a little harder for you...at least if they ever want
to sell you another atv anyways! Keep us all posted. Dan.

Unfortunally, that is a polaris.......they always break down and have the least reliability of any atv...just check out consumer report.

Yes I know, but I used to have a 500H.O. and a 330, and both of them were trash. Polaris has some great ideas, but their reliablity is bad. My 500H.O. had to have a new motor after 3 months of regular farm use (everything was stock) and the break pad were always being replace as well as the belt had to be replaced. My 330 was a little better, but the 4wd went out at 9 months, and that was the last straw. I check out the polaris forum to see if others are having problems as I had, and unfortunally, they seem to still do. Sorry for rufflin your feathers.
