I was out riding my scrammy in the snow the other day,Then It started to act funny it started popping and then it shut off.I tried to start it back up but, as you all know the crappy Auto starter would only work a little bit .Just little kick over but, not a whole turn.So I tried the pull start and still No luck!! Well, I was about to get my friend to hook it up.then i hit the starter one more time and It fired up.It reved fine and eveything seemed good untill i hit the gas to go.
As soon as I hit the gas IT took off in reverse. WHAT!!! but I WAS IN DRIVE!!!So at that, reverse was drive and drive was reverse.IT was turely f---ed up but cool to .NOW I had a new low gear in drive and a high gear for reverse.
I turned the quad up and tried to start it with the pull start ,as soon as i did it fired up with no change.
Well I drove it home and took off the trans cover and saw that the engine was running backward!!Then I took off the FLYWHEEL cover And found out that the Flywheel sheered The KEYWAY and Now was 180 the wrong way. That is why it fired backward so easy.
Well since I was in that part of the engine I fixed the starter, bendix,and put a New keyway in the shaft.
Now it works normal again!!
WOULDN"T IT BE COOL IF WE COULD GET A STATER THAT WOULD LET IT RUN BACKWARDS>AND A WAY TO START IT THAT WAY!!!
IT WOULD BE LIKE HAVING ANOTHER SET OF GEARS!!

The new sleds reverse is by shutting off the engine and running it backwards. Ive heard it weighs less than 3 lbs (not confirmed).

 

yes,that true,it called PERC,,you have the whole engine powerband at reverse as in front gear (no rev limiter),,,it's funny to snap the throttle backward and the sled really rip the track off.
