Default how do you do a valve adjustment

I have a 02 sportsman 400 with close to 300 hours on it and 2800 miles and never done a valve adjustment. The owners manual says you should do it at about 100 hours. Has any one done this themselves and how hard is it to do? Is it really required? Do you need any special tools or specifications? Let me know.

Valve adjustments aren't hard to do if you're mechanically inclined and patient, and yes, they need to be done regularly to get the longest life and best performance out of the quad. It's not an easy thing to explain without pictures using text only. Your best bet if you want to do it yourself is to buy a service manual and read the procedure over carefully before you start. Only you are the best judge of whether it's something you want to tackle yourself.
