Here is a few ideas I have heard on the forum but haven't tried any yet:
1. change from the 32mm carb to the 40mm carb
2. k&n air filter
3. aftermarket exhaust (heard these don't do much)
4. spring kit for the clutch
5. change the cam from the scrambler to the
sportsman
6. Has anybody bored out the 500cc besides
highlifter
So whats some of your ideas fellows...

I installed a K&N filter with no noticable improvement in power. Some time in the future I would like to try a Scrambler cam & carb.

The front springs have helped a great deal, if you ride hard, you will bottom out. the springs can keep things in check.

K&N, I have noticed a bit of power increase, only after tweeking the Air / Fuel screw. The time when your going to gain the help of the K&N is when you manage to get the stock one wet and it falls apart, leaving you wide open.

I have removed one shim from the driven clutch and moved the stock spring to the last hole, this has helped keep the "Rs" up in the mud.

The HPD lower stearing post bearing is a great help in the front end along with a complete new tie rod and end set up.

The SP crank-shaft/connecting rod is different from the Scrambler. It may not handle the extra rpm's, according to Polaris engineering. ( icheck the part#'s, they are different) I was thinking of the cam/carb up-grade myself. At least till I heard this. later Polcat

The cam and carb work fine together. Don't try just the carb, it runs rich. There are lots of "old mechanics tales" floating around out there that don't mean a thing. We've done quite a lot to ours with no problems at all.

I put on a k&n filter, supertrapp pipe and exhaust and 170 main jet. It picked up about 4 or 5 mph. I am going to install a clutch kit in the next couple of days. Let you know what that does for it.

The 40mm needs the Scambler's higher duration cam to be effective and the Scambler's lighter clutch weights are suppose to be a big help in performance.

Not doubting you at all Jack. How many high-rpm hrs./miles have you ran your SP? What year is it? The "Tales" that I stated(above) were right from the horses' mouths. Not from a magazine,E-mail, through the grape-vine,Or a deranged mechanic. Good riding Polcat
