DragRaptor, my 02 tranny bit the dust last memorial day. 3rd gear split in two, check it out on my pic page. Yamaha is on double secret probation with me. I am going to buy another quad in the next year or so for one of my boys and these reliability issues with the raptor will weigh heavily in my decision. No problem with the rebuilt so far.

How can cryo treating cause metal to be more brittle? Unless you heat it up too much and cool it too fast, cryo treating shouldn't effect the original heat treatment at all. I've had rifle barrels cryo treated with great results, not nearly as much warpage as the barrel gets hot. A 300 RUM is not the place for brittle metal, that sucker is developing 75K psi at the barrel throat!

Back cutting a raptor tranny is not a good idea. Cryo treating is. I had my 02 cryo treated and I coated them as well. When I pulled my motor apart a few months ago, they were perfect....and I beat the crap out of them.

i had my tranny go out a long time ago on my 01 rappy and my mechanic back cut my gears and after it was back together and running, the back cut gears lasted a week..... he did it the second time......SAME RESULTS......so the third time we used Forton Gears and they have worked like a dream!!!!
