Bummer!

We just got done a few weeks ago putting in an '02 tranny in my buddy's '01. He has gone through an '01, Billet Tranny and now he is on an '02 Tranny. I kinda talked him into going with the '02 because it hadn't had problems but, I hate hearing this. I'll feel bad if this one goes on him. My Wife also has a 2003 Raptor so this issue hits home.

I agree with Bartlet - Cryo is good for wear but, I don't know if it will add to strength enough to change anything but. . . having said that. . . if it were me, I would probably do it to. Not that much money for a little piece of mind.

I had the gears in my DS unercut to help preventing it from popping out of gear.

By the way Bartlet, what are you riding now

well im trying to get it done by this weekend so i can go to pismo, my racing season is gunna start up in a few weeks also so i think if i just keep from racing on the road, or riding on the road sence thats when it happend, ill get another 2 years outa those and by then ill have gotten a better bike ( i hope) ive been pretty hard on these gears the paste 3 years that ive had it, so im gunna keep it pretty much only a race bike and no more cruising around the fields

Most everyone quickly learns to launch the Raptor in 2nd gear when drag racing, I suspect that has something to do with the transmission problems.

I ensure my trans is solidly locked into 2nd by feathering the clutch while holding upward pressure on the shifter and I can feel it click further. I always launch in 2nd and never had it slip out of gear and my 01 trans still holds up to the abuse after the 686. I just wish my clutch did as well. Even with that I'll put an 02 trans in my Rappy and wonder about the cost of the cryo and coating?

My 02 tranny conversion went too (This New Years)...before the 01-to-02 conversion I had the gears cryoed but........maybe it would have broken sooner if not but it apparently didnt make it bullet-proof. I really dont know if it helped or not - I'll never know....I didnt cryo the new replacement gear so we'll see what happens - it'll either last longer or not ??
