4X4 selection for a 2000 AC 500 standard
#1
I was just wondering if there is a way to make my bike selectable to 2 wheel drive? The warn 424 select is not available to this bike. Is there any other kit to do this or mod that I can do myself?

I looked for a long time and and ended up changing the front diff to a King Quad diff. The swap was not hard and I was able to do it for about $300. I liked the a/c limited slip diff but my arms got tired riding on hard trails.

Thanks tricat, but I have some ?'s. Did it make much of a difference in handling and how about gas mileage? To select in and out of 4wheel drive did go with a cable setup similiar to the warn 424?
Thanks in advance I'm just a little excited, I didn't think that I would get any response or options but I figured I would try anyway.

Did it make a difference handling? Yes! Yes! Yes! That is the best thing I got from this swap. It was nice to go out on dry trails and use one hand to steer! It steers almost as good as my wife’s 2X. Fuel? I never really check fuel mileage on my quad but I can tell you that I noticed right away that the engine was not running as hard when I had the old diff. My selector is made out of 1/4" rod stock. I used a coat hanger to give me the general design and then tweaked it from there. I did buy an A/C cable for a 300 but I could not get it to work.
I also tried to use the 3.09 gearing that is stock for the KQ and then run 1" larger tires in the rear. This worked but you could hear that it just wasn't right. So I changed the ring gear (see list below) and used my pinion gear off my old diff to change it back to 3.60 ratio, changed my rear tires. Now it works PURFECT!
These are the parts I had to get to do the swap. I was lucky and got a KQ diff for $90 from ebay, the bearings were in bad shape but I was able to replace them all with the bearings from my old diff.
1.The suzuki diff
2. 36 tooth ring gear (3402-519)
3. Shift arm (0502-064)
4. shortened or new/used left axle. (0402-249)
5. Custom Shift lever or suzuki cable w/control
