01 Beartracker idles rough/stalls at idle
#1
Hi all.
Any one have any ideas why a Beartracker would idle rough and stall at idle after about a minute?? I've turned the idle speed up but I know that's not the final answer. I don't have a shop manual, but am familiar with carbs. Can anyone suggest a fix and/or give the the stock settings in terms of how many turns out the high/low speed mixture screws should be?? If there's a needle valve, what position should the clip be in, etc??
I'm going to run some ring free through it and maybe some cleaner, but don't want to remove the carb unless I have to. That will be the next procedure (removal).
THanks
PS No problem starting, and runs good at more than idle throttle.

You've probably got some gunk in your pilot jet circuit, thats why is runs so good off idle, but dies when you're off the throttle. The only sure way to get it out is to pull the carb, it is not very hard to get at, then remove the pilot jet, spray it out with carb cleaner, and all the passages in the carb ,then blow it out with air ( wear goggles, that spray really stings in the ol' eyes !!) It should idle like new after that. stock setting for the idle mix is usually 1 1/2 to 2 turns from seated, depending on your motor, you may need to play with that. Most needles are in the 3rd notch from the bottom to start with, if yours runs good off idle, I wouldn't mess with that. Hope this helps you out some.
