I know there are a trillion threads about the 01 tranny and will prolly get cussed about posting something else. But the raptor I just got a few months ago, I just done a lot of new mods(listed below) and was thinkin if I got one of the bad ones, wouldnt it have already went by now, and will the power increase have any effect on it even if I avoid reverse and shifting hard from first to second. Please let me know honest helpful opinions and please be gentle on the comments[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]
I have been paranoid as he!! since I just spent so much money on it. And if it is going out, will it make a clattering noise or anything?Thanks

 

You won't know if it's going to go out until it does. Some guys are running much more power than you on the orriginal 01 gears and still haven't had a problem. With your increased power your chances of failure increase as well. If you are worried about it comming apart, you may want to change the gears while it's still in one piece and save some money on colateral damage. Or, you can just not worry about it and take it easy.

 

I am running a Stage II 686 and still have a perfectly performing 01 tranny. It can depend on the individual bike and on how you ride it. I don't believe in dropping the clutch as many drag racers seem is a necessity. I can run just as fast a time by slipping it off the line. I put the abuse to my clutch instead of my tranny and I still have an original tranny to show for it.

Bottom line, you won't know for sure unless it blows. Don't worry about it till it does.

I had an 02 tranny go out in mine!!!! I wasn't riding it but it was an instant thing when it went! Mine was mostly stock engine-wise

 

It was originally believed that Yamaha had put the '02 style trans in the late '01 models. I even had a Yamaha service rep tell me this.[Although he never admited that the '01 was a problem]

But all serial numbers on the 2001 models apply to the same part numbers on all internal parts........so they are all the same.
