need advice on 04.5 600 faster warm ups
#1
just got a 2004.5 600 special for plowing snow. problem I'm having is it takes along time for machine to warm up so that the engine is running good. I have to keep the choke out at least half way for quite some time before it will stay running decent. it will act like it is missing if I go out and plow snow to quick. it really doesn't run good until the cooling fan kicks in. when that does, i can finally push the choke the rest of the way in. Thinking that i should have bought the Arctic Cat 500 with the electric choke. any one having this problem ? is there any thing i can have adjusted? or is it just going to be a learning curve on using the choke. any updates from polaris besides trading in for an efi 700? any help or advice would be appreciated? Thanks,
Tom

TommyATV,
I just installed this up grade to my 04 700 in Jan. All the parts (jet, needle, spring, pilot) were $26.00. It works great. Warm up time is like 5 min, and that’s in -10C weather. Throttle response is improved and it is a lot smoother power delivery. Do a search on 600/700 jetting I had all the parts listed.

i dont know if you know, but i have a 04.5 sp 600 and i am having the same problem and i took it back. turns out there is a service bulliten out on the needle and the float valve. its getting fixed for free, but as far as the speed of warming up, they told me to run it at about half choke and run it and play with the choke until it is fully warm. do they have any performance upgrades for the 600?? i havent been able to find any..

I think i heard earlier on the chat site that the dealers may fix the jetting on some 04 600/700 sportsmans. I'd call your dealer and see if they will cover it under warranty, they may do it if it's slightly out of warranty too. I think they added a new jet. Check with your dealer or another dealer

I've had my '03 Sportsman 600 back from the shop about 2 weeks now since they did the FREE jet upgrade and it warms up much faster than before. There are 2 upgrades, including this one, that needs to be done on this model. Both were done on my at the same time. You need to be sure to tell them that the upgrade is from Polaris and should be free.
