Hey guys I am considering shock covers for the DS. I ride mostly trails in the desert and some dunes. Do you recommend shock covers? Will they hurt the shocks in any way? Are some better than others? Which are best?

I dont use them, I was told if you ride in warm conditions to take them off because the will cause your shocks to heat up faster and fade, also they cant get air to them to cool them when the do heat up. but they my be good if you ride in muddy conditions
others that use them all the time might have a differnt veiw on this.

depends on how hard you ride, they could hold heat, but they also keep sand out of moving parts.

 

If you do trail and track riding they help keep the shafts from getting pitted from rocks & debris. As far as heating up the shocks and getting shock fade, I have never felt a difference.

 

They are good becuase they keep mud,sand, dirt and debris that can do damage to the shock and seals out

 

I think they protect the shaft seals and if you've got rezzies, the oil can cool in there.

 

the shocks do get hot, on a summer day mine get so hot you can barely leave your hand on them. and I can feel the supsension fade as a result too. its all about how hard you tackle whoops, and how long you sustain that attack.
the rezzy doesn't cool the oil though, its full of 300psi of nitrogen for an air cushion on top the oil, but the extra oil in the line leading to the rezzy does help in cooling a bit.

But I'm all about keeping the mud and crap off of them in the woods, and gravel roost chipping at the springs and chromed shaft aint good either, so I wear them regardless of fade.

What we need are covers made of the water resistant Outerwears material - so they can shed the crap and breathe, all at the same time.....
