Default Scrambler 50 drowning out

Our Scrambler 50 drowns out going through puddles except at very low speeds. This does not make "Jr" very happy, nor dad when he has to wade out in the water and start it. . . again. I noticed the split case airbox really doesn't seal/fit very well. Is there a sealant or something to help keep the seams watertight but still let you easily split the box to clean the filter?

I would think any sort of silicone sealer or form a gasket
rubber gasket maker or rtv would work, as long as it doesn't
turn hard.. It might take a good tug to get it appart..

Waterproof grease helps to seal it.
