Raptor 50, 80 or other?
#1
Looking to purchase a first time ATV for my 4 year old. Considering the Raptor 50 or the 80. (or other brand?) How fast will the kid out grow the 50? Looked at one this weekend and speed seams to be some what limited. He already rides often on my 300 with me. Anyone got some good imput to help me in my purchase direction?

The only Raptor I would consider buying is the 660r, but not for a child. If you want to stay with a big brand, get an LT80 and limit it until he/she is ready for more speed. There are some really good quads out there in the 50/90cc category considered to be "off brands." E-ton seems to have a good dealership scope around the country, if you are looking for service. If you want to work on it yourself and don't want a Yam/Honda/Suz/Kawa, look at the Kasea(LRX is same) line. They have a foot brake and seems to be the racers choice. As far as outgrowing, depends on the size and temprament of the child. Some of the 50's are the same size as the 90's. I bought my son a Kasea Skyhawk 50 when he was 4. He is a larger child, but was a little timid at first (that changed quickly), it fits him great, but now at 5 he is wanting more power. Neighbors kid is same age but much smaller, and the same quad will work for him for another 2 yrs. So it really all depends on the child, and you would know your child best.

Thank you for the information. I have done more research and it looks like the LT 80 is the way to go. Too bad ...like the looks and four stroke of the Raptor. Nowbody likes it ............little turtle that can't handle the hills. The LT has a dated look to it but performance is much more important. Do you know if there are any after market foot platforms and or nerf bar set ups for it? Most the 50's have full foot platforms.

Good choice. There are many aftermarket items for this bike. LT80 on this forum knows alot about them and should have access to many parts. You can also contact Hetrick Racing, or check out their website. The reason it does not have a full floor board like the others, is that there is a foot brake (good thing). The KFX80 is the same thing now if you like the green color.
