Default 60 bucks for valve adjustment, do it, or buy necessary tools?

my local shop (its a yammie shop, because i dont want to drive like an hour...)
will do a valve adustment for 60 bucks....

im wondering if i should have them do it, or if i should buy the tools needed to do it myself?

how much are the needed tools? (feeler guages, calipers? etc etc?)

if i do decide to do it msyelf, i may take it into my engines class at the school and use the shop, because i know they have calipers, and i beleive feeler guages....

how long does it take to check the specs? anyone know of a write up or step-by-step guide to do it?

let me know what you guys think

I would let the local dealer do the job. Let them do the job they should have the right tools and knowledge. Beside $60 is very cheap! I looked into having mine done and the local dealer wanted $150 to do the job, I am still looking for a shop that will do it for a reasonable $!!! BTW I am in so. Ca if anyone knows a respecatble shop/dealer.

Hey roost, its hard to belive the'd only charge $60 bones.. i bet they mis quoted that one.. what id do(well actually i did mine myself)...what ya could do is remove the gas tank before ya take it in.. that will save them 20 minutes of time takin it off and back on.. save a little $.. the process is only slightly complecated but you need to have a bunch of shims on hand to get it right.. you dont have those shims on hand and they do... so id have them do it.. when i did mine i had to drive to the dealer and back like 3x to get the exactly correct shims i needed. good luck

how do i go about taking the tank off?

i assume i undo the screws for the plastic, then do i just undo the bolts under the tank? (or is there more to it than that?)

Thanks

I do my own work, but for $60.00, it would be worth having someone else do it. (Knowing what has to be done and depending on your experience and knowledge).

As long as you trust them and they know what they are doing, it is worth 60 bones.

they are the same shims the Raptor uses.. just have differnt part numbers on them, thats what makes it a tiny bit complecated on quessing which ones ya need.. i just kept replacing them and testin them with the feeler gauge till got it right.. in the end i just bought like 25 shims and took the rest back.

Let me get this straight.........you've owned your quad for lets say as long as you've been a memeber of the connection, fair enough...and you've got all this cool bolt on stuff that I presume you put on by your lonesome, no? Removing the tank is far removed from being complicated...BUT YOU'VE NEVER DONE IT AND YOU WANT SOMEONE TO SPEND 10 MINUTES TYPING TO EXPLAIN IT?!!! Ya gotta be kidding!!! ROTFLMAO!

Just don't forget to turn the petcock to "off"...

Razzing ya....
