Time to replace the Ohtsu's as they just don't hold up to woods riding. I've ordered Razr IIs and went with 22's rear/23's front for more ground clearance(my swingarn skidplate drags everywhere). Anybody else running these tire sizes and if so, how did it affect your handling?
Oh yeah, 43t rear sprocket on the way also.

 

I have 22" tires on both ends and a 14t front sprocket, it works really well but it does feel tall when your sitting next to a 400 class bike.

 

I am. Maxxis Razrs. They are great. I am running stock gearing and it still will pull the front up pretty easy. The only problem I had was that the front fender supports rubbed the side walls. Just bend them out a little and your good to go.

 

I had gone with XCTs on my '01 DS, 22" & 23". With my new X I left the 22" front tires and just put the Maxxi 22" on the back. It did not upset the steering geometry at all. It handles great, and gives me the increased traction and ground clearance I was looking for. The Maxxis slide so well, even though it is a little higher, I don't think I gave up anything.

I left the stock gearing. On my old DS I went with the 14 tooth countershaft sprocket. This time I went with my modified end cap and a CDI. I have so much more low end torque than stock I don't need the lower countershaft sprocket. I can now putt through the rough stuff better than stock, even though my gearing is higher. My end cap is louder than stock, but not much, and has a swirl type spark arrestor I cannibalized out of a yamaha exhaust.

i'm running the excact same setup,it works great except that you should go one tooth down on the front sproket to get it closer to stock, to make up for the bigger tires and losing a little torque on the bottom end.

 

perfect set up and realy helps with that rear end. Dont change the gearing to a 14 to match the stocker, they geared the bike down just to keep it around 75 mph to meet regulations. stock bikes run best ( according to stop watches and drag races ) with the 16 on the front.

 

opps i mean 16 on stock up to a 17 keep the 16 with the 22's

 

I think ITP Holeshot XCR's are better then the maxxis...I had maxxis and they were only 4-ply ......The NEW ITP XCR's are now making fronts....I just got done riding on them this weekend and they totally rock.....I highly recommend them over maxxis...

A 16 or even 17 t front is way to tall for me. I currently run the 15/40 with 20" tall tires and I am happy with the torque. I'm a woods rider not a duner or drag racer. I will be running either 15/43 or 14/40 with these tires to keep the torque.

I'm not trying to be a wise guy but FYI the Razr II's are 6ply. I considered the Holeshots (I think they are a great tire as well) but went with the Razr II's for the extra tread.
