Trail Blazer 250 Crank Seals
#1
A while back I posted that the quad was burning holes in the piston almost as quck as we would change them. It was suggested that the crank seals may be leaking.
A buddy of mine and I are going to change the crank seals. The problem we ran into so far is. We can't figure out how to get the PTO ??? off, if that is the correct name for it. Is there a special puller that is needed to get it off. The other side just has a gear on it near as I can tell. I assume a gear puller will handle that side. Anything else that we are gonna run into that we need to be prpared for? It looks like acording to the parts manual that this can be done without spitting the cases. Thats what we're shooting for. TIA

The "PTO" is your primary clutch - it takes a 3/4" fine thread puller to make it come off - you can buy the puller, buy a long 3/4" fine thread bolt, or some say that a long shank trailer ball w/ 3/4" fine threads will work. Tighten the puller as tight as you can get it - then smack the end of the puller with a hammer and the primary clutch should just "pop" off.
The other side is the flywheel - you will need an automotive "harmonic balancer" puller to get the flywheel off - there are 3 bolt holes for the puller bolts (either 6mm or 8mm - not sure which yours has). Once the flywheel is off, it is easier to remove the stator plate to access the seal - mark your position of the stator plate before pulling it off - this is also your ignition timing.
Hope this has helped.

Thank you very much for the info. Im not sure I totally understand the type of puller that is needed for the PTO. The PTO shaft end has threads on the inside of it. I asume that is where the 3/4" fine thread bolt goes. Is this puller I need kinda like a gear puller only one that will let me thread a 3/4" bolt through the center. And then hook the two legs of the puller around the PTO?
Im sure Polaris make the proper tool. Has any one bought one? If so how much are they?

Do a search on Ebay for Polaris Clutch puller - they always have tons listed (with pictures) - it will also give you an idea of what you are looking at - basically a bolt that threads through the clutch and pushes against the end of the crankshaft
If you try to "pull" on the outside of the clutch - it will break your clutch ($)
