K&N vs Stock air filter
#1
Is K&N really flow better for the ds than the stock filter ? How much difference? enough to have to rejet? I'm running open airbox.. I have a new stock one sitting here, but didn't know if I should just get a K&N

Well yeah it flows better, It flows way better, as in alot. Its like you having a stopped up nose and trying to breath through one nostrial and when ur nose becomes unstopped u can breath alot better.Thats the same way those filters work. K&N is one of the best and productive filter u can buy. I wounld't think that u would have to rejet it but if u add a pipe K&N and other mods u might consider changing the jets. Lance

Not only that but the stock bomb filter is actually a perty decent filter compared to most stock filters. Only draw back is thats it's disposable and that can get expensive. Expecially if you ride year round and almost every weekend.

Well I got a couple different answers, one says no, one says Yes it flows good, but not the best filter, one says it is a pretty decent filter any more opinions? thank you,,,,so far it looks like "its a good filter" is winning.. I was also wondering about the foam filter, It is new, but has been sitting for a while,,If I am going to use this thing, I guess I better get it reoiled

On a stock engine the factory filter makes the same exact hp as a K&N on the dyno. The No-Toil foam made more a little bit more power than either one. On any modified engine the No-Toil begins to show bigger gains.

I would say that MRHP's info tells the airflow story. The air cleaner is not the bottleneck on a stock DS. The noticeable difference comes when you run with a new pipe and other modifications.
Tests on cars have shown that paper filters flow as well as others when they are new, but they degrade almost imediately because the pinholes that the air passes through get clogged very quickly. The cotton and foam filters don't pass air by pinholes.
In addition, the stock paper filter costs as much or more than most of the aftermarket filters. I use a no-toil cleaning kit with my Uni-filter.
Any foam or K&N cotton type will be easier on your wallet than the paper original.
