how much gain with a 416
#2
It really depends on what you have done to your EX. If it is stock and you are just putting in a 416 piston then you will notice an increase but not what it could be. If you already have an aftermarket air filter and exhaust then you will notice a pretty decent gain. If I were you I would try to run at least 11:1 compression for the best gains possible. Also consider getting a cam, porting will also help. I got my 416 done the same time my friend got his 440 done and I took him in every drag we ever did. The front end will lift up ALOT easier. I have trouble keeping the front end down in every gear except 5th, which it will if I work with it just a little. It is really nice to be able to be running 30MPH in fifth then just get into the throttle and watch the front end come up nice and slow.
A 416 done the right way will take just about any quad out right now in a straight line. I can't comment on the DS650, 450R or the YFZ but Raptors with no engine mods are beaten. As are Predators, Z400/KFX/DVX's. Banshee's are the only quads that I have raced against and not won.
I would guess that with everything I have done to my EX that it added at around 10 HP over stock, most of the gain is torque. People that have piped Raptors think they are used to torque until they ride my quad.
Overall there is really no downside to the 416 like there is the 440. 440's overheat without additional cooling and 416's don't. I would suggest also getting a bigger oil cooler. Something that I will be doing soon.
Again everyone that has ever ridden my quad came away very impressed that it was only 416cc. I also hear great things about the 426 too.
Go 416 or 426, I think you will like it.
