Default ds starting problems

I had a similiar problem with my 2000 DS. It ran great for a full week in Glamis and when I returned to Minnesota, I couldnt get it to run for anything. I cleaned the carb and checked spark and finally I replaced the plugs for new ones and the problem solved! I dont know if one plug was weak and not firing under load or what, but it runs great now and has for a year now!!!!

Check the plugs because they are cheap & easy, then check the valves because that is probably the problem. The valves being out of adjustment will often cause poor compression, which is why someone else suggested that you check the compression. On a 4 stroke, valve adjustment is just as important as gas, spark & air.

Most likely it's your valves... if they are out to spec it will make any four stroke starting a pain.

Hey what year is the quad. My 04 DS did the same thing after braking it in. Took the plugs out and they were fouled bad and soaked in gas. Went to the dealer and they knew exactly what was wrong......pilot screw in the bottom of the carb needs turned 1/4 turn clockwise. The dealer said that they put 6 sets of plugs in their showroom DS in a month and all they do is pull it outside everyday. After i cleaned the plugs and adusted mine it fires right up without a problem.

Intake valves have probably lost their clearance, need thinner shims or those ground. Should start if you pull it.
