Hi everyone, I need help with my blaster. Right now it will start easily but won't rev up, it just sits there with a rump rump rump idle no matter what the throttle position is. I've completly cleaned the carb, removed all the jets and made sure they were open, compression is about 125psi. It's an early 90's model with that throttle safety thing on top of the carb. The local shop is saying this could be the problem. Is there a way to troubleshoot this system or better yet, disable it.
I have checked both switches with a multimeter and they are working. I just don't understand how all this keeps the motor from revving up, I assume it's cutting spark part time?[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img]

 

There might be a part of the TOR's that keeps your engine from reving up. Have you changed your spark plug yet?

 

I believe that Duncan Racing sells TORs elimination kits for around $50.

Its that crap Yamaha installs from the factory to prevent damage to your engine. It sits right on top of the carb and your throttle cable is connected to it.

 

Is there anyway to bypass the electrical portion of this, what is the signal the ignition is seeing from this system? It still has the original carb and I read in another thread If it did you could disable it but I don't know how.

 

check the resistance of the primary ignition coil under the flywheel, sounds like it may be on its way out, and yes you can by pass the tors unit by unplugging it and taping the wires together on the harness

 

do you know what the resistance in ohms should be?

 

my buddy has a banshee it does the same thing when rthe parking brake is engaged

 

check under the hood, there are two boxes attached to the frame. The top one is the tors box and the other is the CDI. If the tors box is unpluged it will start but the throttle will do absolutly nothing. Check the plug that goes into it and see if its connected properly.
