Default 2003 Grizzly,PAIN about reverse-HELP please ???

Hi Everybody. I am asking if anybody can help to tell me if there is a solution to my pain. I love my bike 2003, but,,,when switching into or out of reverse I must squeeze the left brake. I find that very inconvenient. Is there any way to alter the bike so I can just shift my lever WITHOUT braking, as I was on my 1998 Grizzly?? If anybody knows about this, please post a reply so I can get an understanding. Thank-You very much.....Terry E.

is there a way to adjust the shift linkage? maybe it's binding up?

I really don't know, but I'll help by getting this thread back to the top

From what I understand is the safety mechanism is inside the tranny shifter shaft assembly. My source tells me that it would require you to tear into the tranny shift assembly to override it which he believed would be near to impossible to do anyway.

Hey Sparky, I was afraid of something like that. It is a safety device sure, but it really is a pain. The brake and gear lever are on the same side, making me have to twist every single time coming or going out of reverse. I feel that the set up could really be improved with still leaving some saftey device on the machine. OH WELL. Thank-You.....Terry E.

Terrytractor, the safety mechanism is hooked to the rear brake and you should be able to activate it bypressing the brake pedal on the right floorboard. Actually I was not aware that you could also engage the override via the rear brake lever on the left handlebar (I thought the switch was connected to the rear brake pedal itself). However this may be still the way it works, because I've noticed my rear brake pedal moves when I squeeze the rear brake lever on the handlebar. Perhaps you are squeezing your lever hard enough where the pedal moves far enough to activate the switch.

Anyway, try pressing the foot pedal on the right side when you want to get into Reverse or Park, I think you will find that a lot easier to manage. My shifting mechanism on my '02 model has actually gotten easier to use over time, it's shifts as smooth as silk now...

Hey 2TV,,,,I am amazed and excited to read what you posted, I am not sure if I even tried useing the foot brake on the right side. Only at 35 miles on it. You can be sure when I get outside into the garage I am going to try it. I will post the outcome later when I get back home. Thank-You so much for enlightening me. I sure hope it works . Take care....Terry !

Inside at the back of the right front wheel well (as sitting on the quad) there is a little black plastic shield pull it off, 1or 2 screws hold it on. Behind this is the rear brake master cylinder, brake light switch, and another cable attached to the brake pedal via a small spring. Take a zip tie and attach it to the end of the cable and around the brake pivot point. When this cable is held, out with the zip tie, you can then shift into any gear without touching the brakes.
