Default High Oil Pressure? Bad Rectifier?

For those who have measured the oil pressure on the DS650, what is the highest reading you ever got when oil is cold? I'm seeing 100psi with cold oil. The motor stalls out when the pressure goes above 80psi.

Also, my rectifier isn't working properly - at idle the battery only reads 12.7V and at 3500RPM it only reads 13.1V. I believe you need at least 13.8V to properly charge the battery.

If your battery is fully charged, it should read about 12.8 with the quad disconnected. you should see over 13 at an idle. You don't necessarily need to see 13.8 to be getting a charge on the battery, but it should be at or above that at 3500 rpms.

any obstruction with the new base gasket or oil passage up thru the jug- 100psi is way up there hummm?? Where are you taking the pressure reading? From the sensor location?

yes I have a gauge tied into the sensor port.

I re-bled the oil system and put in a new oil filter and now the pressure is normal - 70psi cold.

I got it running but had to richen up.

Rectifier will be replaced. It's charging some, but not enough.

I installed a new rectifier and now I get 13.7V at around 2000RPM.

How much for the new rectifier and who did you get it through?

Well I just fixed my charging problem!

What I found is the wiring harness is poorly made. The wiring from the rectifier output to the battery terminals has some small resistance which causes a voltage drop. The rectifier was putting out 14.15V at idle at the rectifier wires close to the casing of the rectifier. At the battery terminals I was only getting 13.4V.

So to solve the problem, I simply wired my own connection for the rectifier output directly to the battery with 12 gauge wire as short in length as possible. Pepboys has the mating 2-pin weathertite connector.

After adding my simple wiring, I get 13.8V across the battery terminals at idle. At 3500RPM I get 14.2V!!! I even get 14.2V with a heavy current draw from accessories and electronics. And when I shut the DS off, the battery terminals were at 13.94V, now that's a charged battery!!

I think my battery problems are gone as long as I keep the battery charged when it sits.

Glad you got it ironed out. That 13.9 v your reading when you shut off the quad is just a surface charge. It can and will stabilize around 12.8 after it sits for a while.
