manual chain tensioner and egt question
#1
i just sent my head, cams, and intake to mr hp. when i reinstall the motor i was thinking of using the manual chain tensioner. how do you know how tight to make the chain? second can you use any egt guage with any egt sensor? once everything is back togeather i found a local place that will dyno the bike to set up the tm45(thanks to scoby). im very excited to see the results!!!! ive spent good money sofar on this bike and have yet to get the one mod that was like " wow this added a lot of power". mabey it was the way i was dialing them in but hopefully with this setup and the dyno session it will impress me!!!

I have the manual tensioner. To set the chain all you need is a flat screwdriver and a 12-13 wrench I cant remember witch. You use the screw driver to move the the tensioner in and out. The wrench will lock it in place.
I remember talking to marky and you should have 2mm of movement on top of your cam bridge. Its fairly easy.

what problems have there been with the self adjusting tensioner that comes stock?
I've been running mine stock for over 3 years, .433" lift and the longest duration there is, and no issues thus far. what should I be looking for?

I'm a little familiar with the concept of reading head tempature for track tuning a race bike, is this what you're monitoring the egt for? How many degrees can the egt vary before you feel you should change something?
I installed a A/F gauge and use it. Not the best, but since I can't dyno my tuning changes, I went to this cheap method.

Mine failed.
What happens is the stock one does NOT move under pressure. Meaning it does not keep the chain tight at high rpms. What has happend to people is it creates a jump in the chian and cams can move 1 tooth and mess everything up. So, to fix this get the manual one that keeps the chain tight at all rpms.
Plus for what 40 bucks it is a piece of mind.
