Default 1st dune trip with the DS-help with gearing..?

We are going to Silver Lake Sand dunes in a couple of weeks and I have a question. I have a new set of 22x11x10-8 paddle Haulers on the way. My DS is all stock for now, except a K&N. Should I gear down to a 15T front..looking for a good 2nd gear launch..

At least a 15 tooth. I would probably go to a 14 tooth with a stock bike. I ran a 14/40 combo with a fair few mods. The only problem is you will have to take a link out of the chain to make the 14 tooth work.

I didn't have to take a link out of my stock chain with the 14/40 combo??

another option is a 15- 42, and yes the rear sprocket will be alumunim, but you can lose over a pound by geting that steel rear sprocket off of the machine, and that is rotating mass, and you can use your stock chain.

At 12.99 a sprocket I would get both a 14t and a 15t. I too ran a 14t once apon a time without any chain probs.

I have a 15th front tooth sprocket... debating on weather or not to put it on... will it really hamper top end? I'd even go with a 14 tooth

Your going to like silver lake.. you'll prob stall the first time you go over test hill (if you never been there before) by the end of the day you'll get accustomed to going over those hills.

Not sure if it would hurt the seal. I'm not understanding how it could either but it hasn't seemed to harm my seal. Hope I didn't just screw that up now.

I can't see you running a 14t Entomber....Not with a 720 anyway. Maybe a 15 at times when your running some massive dunes. But even then I should think stock or even higher with a 720.
I think if i ever went to a 720 it would be at least a 17 /40 combo or maybe even a 17 / 39.

I got to really open her up on Pavement today. Feels very similar to my friends Stage III DS. Tons of mid range and lot of room up top. Nothing like a Raptor (whereas the Raptor has lots of grunt on the bottom but power seems to taper off the further you go). I think 14 tooth sprocket might be for me actually. The 720 didn't give me a whole lot of torque that I was expecting. Maybe need more seat time on it.

In the future I may stroke it. Before I do any sprocket changes I need to race my Stage III friend... whatever the outcome then I'll change the sprocket to my liking.
