Sportsman Brakes
#1
Hey has this ever happened to any of you guys:
I was riding my dads sportsman in a local gravel pit, when i came across a little steam, i thought hey, play in the water, its a 4x4, so i go down to 4 low, and start driving. Well the stream turned into a large mud hole, filled with gravel. as I spun the tires a bit(while winching to my buddies AC 400I) so rocks found their way into the back wheel, so a hour later we finally got it out, when i start to drive it a safe distance from the mudhole, i hear bam, crack. All i can think is oh no, dads new quad, this cant be good. Look at the back of the quad, and it seems one of the rocks broke the brake capliper off the wheel. $700 later its fixed.
Just wondering if this sorta thing has happend before, or I am the first one.
Now looking for my own quad, and sure as hell not a polaris

I found when winching out of a mud hole, it's better not to use your drive system, just let the winch pull you out of the hole or the other guys quad ... this keeps the "stuff" (dirt, mud, rocks, etc) from building up in the chassis of the quad. My 2500 warn winch has enough power to lift my quad off the ground (did it this weekend, when pulling my self up a 5 foot 90deg bank out of the creek bed). I would like to say my buddies Honda 300 had the same problem after driving though a deep mud hole … he got a rock stuck between the brake disc and axel and broke the disc it right off … you should always check the drive line after running in deep water or mud.
