DS Battery need replacing or just a charge?
#1
After sitting for around 2 months my ds battery is dead. Im pretty sure its stil good though. Reason being, i jumped it twice, and once it ran for a little while it would be able to turn the engine over 30 or so times. (and yes i did learn that jumping isnt good for the DS which is why i want to do somthing about it before leave for the dunes on friday)
Should i try charging it? if so at what rate? i dont have a charger myself so i will have to try and borrow one.
I also read that on some of the older batteries (grey ones only?) that u can just add water and will work....but are the newer batts sealed?
I dont know what im going to do if i cant get it working...because we are going riding at silver lake fo 3 days and the badlands for 2. (will suck if i get stuck on my friends backup quad, the honda 300 4x4!)
If i have to replace it i would like to get this "www.sunnbattery.com- Odyssey Dry Cell battery for DS650. #pc545, $77 + $5.50 for shipping" but i obivously couldnt get it in time for my trip, and i wouldnt want to buy a lesser battery now.
what to do......

If its a sealed battary
you should just try charging it I use an optimate 3 charger which is for small bike battarys and can also tend your battary ie be left on it for extended periods. if you cant lay your hands on one or similar a car charger can be used but it needs to be one that has and adjustable output. Set it to the lowest setting still on 12 volt but watch the indicator and be carfull not to over cook it or it will be a dead battary for sure
as a rough guide try 6 hours then maybe a couple more at a time just to be safe
If your battary has 6 screw caps on it check the electrolite level if it needs topped up use distiled water
It is possible to open a sealed battary to top it up i have done it in the past but unless you are desparate i wouldnt recomend it as the seal strip and plugs can end up damaged beyond use if you are not carfull
And remember battary acid is not nice to hands eyes clothes and pretty much any thing else it gets on
good luck
