Hesitation is History
#1
Took mine in after 3 hrs and told the dealer my hesitation problem. They changed my main to a 160 and my coil was not grounded properly also they changed the spring in the carb. So before I left the dealer I took it for a rip down the road and boy what a difference NO HESITATION. Can't wait for the weekend.

I'm not thrilled by the way Bombardier is handling bugs in the first production year of the DS650. My DS is now out of warranty. Even if it was in warranty, the dealers wouldn't cover any adjustments to the DS to make it run better. Bombardier is not issuing recalls for all possible problems. Instead, Bombardier is only providing solutions to dealers who call them, on an as needed basis, if a DS650 owner brings the ATV in and complains of a problem. If the dealer is ignorant/lazy or whatever, the DS650 owner may not get the proper solution under warranty.

Hello,
Just wondering how your new machine did out west because last year I went out west with my warrior and I got stuck everywhere luckily he had a winch so it was okay, but I guess that quad could be a real handfull if you got it stuck because they are so big.
Anyway see ya

wolfman, Can you clarify exactly what type hesitation you were experiencing? What were all of the symptions? By hesitation, you are not referring to the lack of lowend power or throttle response just off idle and in upper gears at low RPM are you?

My problem was if I honked on the throttle it would bog out and there would be a slight jerking or missing until the RPM'S built up then it would kick in and go like hell. This happened at a stand still and also in 3rd and fourth gear. If I would slip the clutch to get the RPM'S up it was fine. What I don't know is which fix was the one that corrected the problem.
1. going from a 165 to a 160 main jet
2. changing the spring in the carb
3. the dealer regrounded my coil.
All I know is when I took it out for a rip down the road there was no hesitation period. When I honked on the throttle in any gear the RPM'S would climb without any hesitation. So now I will wait and see if the problem returns.

Do you know the correct length for the spring so I can measure mine to see if it is in spec? The shop manual barely even covers the carburetor and makes no mention of the spring length/tension. I can simply stretch the spring to length if it is too compressed and if it recompresses order a new one?

Scooby,
The stock length is about 110mm. You need to carefully stretch the spring so it is 135mm at rest. This should relieve the bogging when you get hard on the throttle. If I remember correctly you've already adjusted your jetting so you don't have to worry about that. Let me know if this helps. My mechanic was supposed to have called bombardier yesterday to see if they are going to offer a revised spring and get info on suggested front suspension setup. I already have the setup instructions for the rear. I do know that they were busy yesterday so they may not have gotten to it. When I have all the suspension info I will post it.
Good Luck!!

DS650BILL,
I measured my spring and it was 109mm long. I stretched it to 135mm. I will test it out Sunday. I did take it for a quick spin and it might have been a little better, but still not perfect. I need to adjust the jetting a little.
Thanks.
