Gday all from down under
Just gotta question on 81 atc 70 i have that kids (3)ride on
I have a fair bit of eng knowledge on cars /racecars and stuff but atv's hmmmm
This thing was workin great Till one day it dropped 3rd and 4th gear while son was riding i suspect its a shift problem as they still run around
in 1st ans 2nd okay with no noises
It feels like theres nothing there when u go from 2nd to 3rd as if the levers arnt working
any clues ? and does it mean i gotta pull it down (geez its not a b/block chev lol )

Welcome to the forums Mike.
First of all, you can stop looking for 4th gear because the 1981 model only had 3 gears unless the engine is from an '82-'85 model.
As Bing suggested,a broken shift fork could be to blame, but so could a broken gear and broken shift drum. There is no way to know until you take it down. Those engines are built quite simple, but I would recommend a repair manual even to a seasoned ATV mechani. There is always something you will need to reference while you are in there.
Good luck
