Mudlites on 2004 400 ACT?
#1
I just bought a 2004 400 ACT and really like the ATV but the tires really tend to roll when pushed hard in the corners. I have read a few posts on the Mudlites and they have many good reviews. The question I have is that my stock tires are 25X8X12 front and 25X10X12 on the back. Can I go to a 26X10X12 on the front and 26X12X12 on the back? Will these tires rub on the frame? Also can these 26" mudlites be put on my stock rims that I have? Last question will the bigger tires make me loose some speed or will it be overcome by the extra traction. I mostly use my bike for hunting and travelling in the mud. Thanks

How ya doin'? I have the same bike as you, only it's a '03. I just put 27" Bearclaws on mine and it made a drastic improvement in the handling, and getting the power to the ground. I used stock rims, and being 12" in the back , they hit the rear springs. I got 1" Highlifter aluminum spacers, and this solved my problem. The ACT has the shock/springs mounted more vertically as opposed to the IRS, which are tilted inboard more and clear bigger tires without spacers. I did find slight power loss, but nothing really substantial. I went to 27" because the 26" Bearclaws were actually heavier. Mudlites seem like a good choice, I considered them, but they had the same round face as the stockers, where Bearclaws were more of a flat faced tire. Whatever you decide, if you go with 12" rear tires, they'll probably hit, if any bigger than stock. I don't think they rub enough to cause any damage, but I put spacers on cause I didn't like the sound of it rubbing. Cheers
