Here is what I did to solve the same problem that you have when I had my stock carb.
1 - Get a clear tube and place it on your drain outlet.
2 - hold the clear tube straight up next to the carb
3 - turn on the fuel to the carb and open the drain screw
4 - This shows WHERE The fuel is sitting in the bowl.
Remove the bowl, and remove the screw that holds the floats. do not loose any parts, I would to it on a table. Ensure you look at how the floats connect to the plunger. Its really easy but just so YOU know. Then bend the tap towards the TOP of the carb to lower the fuel level in the bowl only move it with your finger and just push it gently, it might not appear to move but it probably did. Then retest your tube view.
I forget what specs are but just get it so it does not overflow when you shake the bike. If you put it to low then you might starve the carb for fuel under load. I BELIEVE it is like 1/8 inch below the top of the bowl. I dont recall. Its been a while since I had a stock carb.
