Default Valve Adjust affect on HP/runability/noise

Just did the first valve adjustment on my Eiger last night. First of all, I have to say that getting to the exhaust valves is a PAIN IN THE REAR. Is it just me, or does is seem Suzuki could have somehow made them more easily accessable?? Maybe a removable panel or a different place for that stupid crossmember?

Anyway, anyone have any experience with the adjustment making a difference with runability? Toward the end of my dunes trip I noticed that my Eiger had more power. Maybe not a whole lot, but definitely there. Due to final breakin, I'm sure, since I was WOT for quite a bit on a lot of hill climbs. ALSO, I noticed what I would catagorize as a an increase in low end power after my valve adjust. I DID tighten up the clearance on the intake valves a bit which made things a lot more quiet. Think just a thousanth or two would make a noticeable power diff? Or am I just HOPING that it did and tricking myself?

Oh yeah, and does your fuel valve drip constantly when the fuel hose to the carb is disconnected? I thought it was supposed to be sealed when there was no vacuum. Dripping when in either ON or RES, not prime. Prime, fuel just POURS out, and that's how it's supposed to be, right?

yes it is ok if it drips out and yes it is supposed to come out fast when on prime. remember your carb is below your gas tank

Actually that last question was directed specifically to newer Suzuki owners. I don't think all quads have the same type of vacuum operated fuel valve as the Eiger, Vinson, etc...
But, thanks anyway.
And, yeah, wouldn't you think it strange that I did my own valve adjust but didn't realize my carburator was below my gas tank???

Mine does not drip at all if it is in the ON or RES position. The only gas that comes out is whats in the line.

Maybe I need to take mine apart and clean the valve.

Thanks, Muddy, that's what I needed to hear.

I doubt you have more horsepower from tightening the tappet a little bit. You'll be lifting the valve a paper thickness higher but you'd never notice that by seat of your pants. You'll notice a greater power increase by carrying less change in your pocket. If it was a little tight of clearance before, that might make more power if the valve had previously leaked when the motor warmed up and everything tightened up, but not the other way.
It'll gain some power as the motor loosens up. And yes, I think that ease of owner maintenance is a level of priority to design engineers, located down around the soles of their shoes.

I totally agree with eveything Glenlivet has said. You would feel a bigger power increase by carrying only one gallon of fuel instead of filling up the entire tank.
