Too Young??

I am 15 years old and I have been wanting to race for a while. I have been looking at the rules and it looks like i can't race my 4-wheeler because its a 450cc. I was wondering if it is legal to move up to the 16 year old division and race with the older guys with my 450cc?

Nope...gotta ride a 90cc dude! As stupid as that sounds...it's your only choice until you turn 16! I'm not sure of the recent rule changes...but I think the Blaster 200cc class may have had the age limit lowered to 14. I'm not sure...don't quote me. go to www.atvaonline.com and check out the rule book for details.

13-15 youth production class: 200cc 2 stroke and 300cc 4 stroke.
No you cannot move up (in atva/ama santioned events) or risk a protest which will get you a 1 year suspention.

LT80 brings up a good point. You could try and "sneak" in the 16year old class...but it's a gamble. I started racing when I was 13 on a Blaster, but that was years before they incorporated the 13year age limit to that class(around 1990). I was lucky, and I thought nothing of the whole protest thing...until about a year after I turned 16. One of the local racers that I raced with for a couple years got nailed...and he got suspended. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Good thing you only have a year to wait...if that's what you decide to do. By the way, what kind of 450 do you have?

Hey thanks for the tips guys.
i will just pratice for another year and race it next year
Its a yamaha yfz 450. i have had it for about a half of year so far and i love it.
I used to have 2 blasters so i traded them both in and got this one and i think it was worth the trade.

Hicks,
I saw in another post you live in WI. You are in luck. In the Wisconsin Quad Series you are allowed to run in 4 stroke B class on your YFZ. They are non ama so they don't have the age 16 rule. There rule is 14 but you must make sure you are big enough and can handle your machine for racing. I am assuming you are a fairly decent size kid at 15 to be riding a 450, but one never knows. Edit: never mind I went through and read a bunch of posts on the wisconsinquadracing website. I'm probably gonna race the may 16th race. Was suppose to have that trail ride the 15th and 16th... guess I'll have to just cop out early
