Default Is the price gap shrinking? Modified Raptor vs. Modified DS

So, you want a powerful 4-stroke quad. It used to be the DS cost to modify was nearly twice what it took to modify the Raptor. Is that still the case?

First, the price of the quads (I know this is Northern California only)

New Raptor (O.T.D.) = $7,200
New DS (non-Baja but, with Tach and Baja Lights - buddy just bought one this way.) (O.T.D.) = $6800

For the Raptor, I looked at the On Dunes site and a 686 with a Carillo Rod and 1mm larger valves is $2k + $1200 for FCR's (source Trinity Racing)

For the DS, TVI and Mr. HP (On Dunes) have 105.5 bore 720's for about $1500 + approx. $2k for porting, larger valves and cams + FCR''s (approx. $900)

Time to total things up:
Raptor: 7,200 + 2,000 + 1200 = $10,400 (hey, no one ever said power was cheap!
DS: 6,800 + 1500 + 2000 + 900 = $10,200

I didn't figure a pipe in this because cost for a pipe for the DS and the Raptor is basically the same.

A few years ago the DS would cost you a lot more than the Raptor but, it doesn't look to be the case today.

34cc more for $200 less? Sounds good to me.

I wonder what the people in the Yamaha forum would think of this?

You can probably pick up a new Raptor for less than $7200 OTD. Even in California.

Since the 450's came out Raptors are not moving off of showroom floors like they use to.

Check your math for the DS...6,800+1,500+2,000+900 = $11,200
What is included in the $1,500 bore job for the DS?
Porting, valves and cams cost $2k for the DS....whats the price break down?

A new Raptor retails for $6,199. What is Cali tax?
