Default opinions on my motor build ideas on my 03 baja please

I have been saving for a build on my 03 baja and i have put away enough for what i think will be a decent all around dune quad and a pretty good 300 foot drag quad (when tuned properly) but i would like your opinions on my ideas.I am probably going to stay with a stock bore for reliability reasons and go with a compression of 11.5 to 1 and also i am thinking of a big gun quiet series pipe header combination although i know it will not be the most powerful it should be good for the low end and midrange that i am most concerned with.I am thinking that a ported intake would be worthwhile along with a web cam but i am not sure which one,any ideas? It sounds like stronger clutch springs will be in order so i will go with those but in what percentage increase i am not sure.I already have a big gun cdi which helped quite a bit and i have a k&n as well.My biggest area of concern or the most confusing thing is choosing a carb because the more i read about the lectron vs tm-45 the more confused i become.I want a carb that is very good in the low end with a strong midrange but i am also wanting a carb that will build the most power at a midrange level so any input on the carb issue will be appreciated.I am very close to getting some parts ordered so any and all information especially on the carbs will be helpful.I am going to probably go with a ten paddle 22 hauler with a .125 wheel which should help with initial acceleration and i will lower my gearing.Any estimates on how much of a gain in horsepower and torque i should expect. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Have you looked into the 14-1 piston that Mr. Hp offers? I saw one of his early bikes run with this setup and it ran awesome. As far as the carb. goes. If you like to tune and have the knowledge to do so, the tm 45 can be a good carb. If your like me and dont have the time or money to spend on dyno sessions to tune a carb. the Lectron is the way to go. check out www.hpresearch.net

don't think you will be happy with the stock bore unless you go stage three

Don't waste your time with that Big Gun. . . go with the Ron Wood Pipe. It is the prooven performer.

If you want to stay with pump gas the 11.5:1 piston is good. If you don't care about pump vs. race gas go with the higher compression.

Pipe will give you overall gains but, more on the top end.
Cams tend to take away from the low end but, give you power on top
Higher compression piston gives you more overall power
Also, a direct mount K&N will give you another 3-4 HP!

On Dunes, HP Research, TVI, Ron Wood can all get you into a stage II or stage III kit. These are great reliable kits. They are very powerful and very reliable. Good choice

duneme the woods pipe is one of the loudest pipes and that with sound checks is tuff. i think dune it will end up with a big bore, i've rode with him a few times and he is a very good rider and likes a good run on the hill kind of like you i think the 105 bore will be as reliable as stock accept for the wear and tear on the crank bearings.

SANDMAN430-I may end up with a big bore it just depends on the opinion of the mechanic that will be doing my build.I suppose that if reliability will not be compromised then a big bore would be worth a few more horsepower over a stock bore 11.5 to 1.Does anyone know who sells a big bore piston for the baja with a 11.5 to 1 ratio?DUNEME-I run fmf-q pipes on my wifes 440 ex and on my 686 raptor and they perform very well for what we do and they are pretty restrictive but because of that they build good torque and low end so that is my thinking with the big gun quiet in fact SANDMAN430 can attest to the fact that our quads do very well indeed with the restrictive fmf-q.Thanks for the input so far and i will take all the information i can get.

Go with what Bill says. If he knows you, he will know what you want. Buying anything less and you will just end up tearing into it and re-doing it later. . . believe me. . .I know

Is anyone running the Ron Wood with the Supertrap Disks with any luck? I was thinking about getting some of the disks before our trip???

DuneMe, the direct mount air filter has been proven to reduce performance. There have been a few dyno sessions that have been openly discussed here that compared the direct mount filter vs the air tube mount filter. Each time the air tube mounted filter resulted in more power. The theory behind this is the air tube creates a higher velocity air flow.

I ran the RWR pipe with and without disks. I figured that 18 disks pretty much equaled the open end cap. Worked great for me, and it does help with sound! Ask Jetsnow...he's got my bike now.

dune it, mine is in the compression range your looking for, you know how it runs, my other ds is a stock bore 11 1/2 compression and you know where it runs, a lttle slower than you 686. i do have the race head on my 720, and it is a rev machine which might not be exactly what you want for duning.
