goggles, helmets, and painting, and some other misc. questions
#1
Well I have been doing alot of researching on this forum lately, and come to the conclusion that I want/need a helmet and some eyewear. We are in the woods all the time and my poor oakleys are just not enough to protect anymore, bugs and dirt and mud keep getting in my eyes. What is the cheapest place to get a good helmet and goggles. I have checked dennis kirk, and ebay. Of course ebay has the greatest prices. Do alot of you wear helmet/goggle setups?
Also I decided on purchasing a HMF slip-on, along with a jetkit and k&n filter with the outwear so I can run with the lid off. I can always go back later on and purchase the header and mid pipe. Have any of you made your own skid plates? My dad got a sheet of aluminum the other day and I figure we could just stand the four wheeler up and make a template, same for the a-arms, considering I am in the process of replacing one of the a-arms. As for the swingarm skidplate, for the graphics I see on ebay and on vendor websites, It looks like it would be a little bit more complicated then just cutting a piece for the frame skidplate.
Last, any of you done body work to your raptor. I have taken 1 good spill and scratched the hell out of the plastic and gave her some stress marks. We got most out with a heat gun, but I think I am wanting to paint her a nice Yamaha Black. I got a buddy that works at the sticker places in town making me some unique looking yamaha stickers and tuning forks. Is the process about the same as with metal? I figure I would sand down the plastic, primer, sand, primer, sand, primer, wetsand, then start the painting...along with many coats of some good clear coat.
It has been such nice weather lately, and this would happen considering my raptor is only running 3 wheels. Darn A-arm. Anyways, you guys are a great place to get some good information, thanks for all the help
