Thinking about racing a hare scramble w/ my X....
#1
Im thinking of giving a Hare Scramble race a shot for the first time. I used to race TT and MX, but never something like that. Im kindof intimidated by such a long race and such a varied terrain. Its 8 miles long. Any info on the scrambles prep or suggestions?

Get a lucky rabbits foot to rub (hare scratcher)
Don't sctrach your head too much thinking about it (hair scratcher)
I just thought I'd toss out something amusing, since I certainly can't help with the idea of the actual race never having been in any race at all. But what the hell, go for it. Most likely you'll just have one hell of a good time & be seriously exhausted afterwards - what more could you want than to be exhausted from TOO MUCH riding time on your X?

i race about 11 of those a year here in michigan. the only thing i can tell you to do is ride ride ride. get in shape! as for the quad, tall tires front and back, (razor 22's front and back) skid plates, and hand guards should get you started. after awhile you can get the full exhaust, rev box, 15t sprocket, air filter, footpeg extentions, nerf bars, radiator shrouds, etc etc etc. there's a lot of stuff to get to fully pimp it out, but its worth it. after your first race, you'll be hooked, and you won't be able to wait until the next scramble. let us know how it goes for you.

If you're talking about the hare scramble at Longview in May, I would say just go for it.
I have ridden that track before and it isn't very technical. The last time I was there, it was mostly wide open trails. don't know if they will be incorporating any of the mx track in there, but that isn't too bad either. The biggest problem you will find there is the mud. Longview has some serious drainage issues. They are supposed to be taking care of that before the WORCS race in June, but I don't know if that will be the case for the hare scramble.
As far as advise on a race like that, endurance is the key. Depending on the length of the race, you may want to pace yourself so you don't get to tired on the last laps.
Also lots of tear-offs would be a good idea.
BTW, are you going to the 4 hour team XC race at Goldendale, WA this weekend? It's an ATV only event.
It would be good practice for the hare scramble. There are going to be a lot of first time racers there and most are just going to have fun. Let me know if you are interested and I can get you some info.

Ill be at Goldendale for the next sunday open ride day. I think this next sunday or after. Forgot the date. I went there last month and after staying 5 secs behind my friend on his cr250r and him saying I was still scarey fast for a quad, I decided I would give it a shot. (He races weekly on his singletrack (2wheeler). I guess I gotta take the jarheads advice the most. Like a PFT (Phys. Fit Test), Ill get good and drunk the nite before, ache in the AM and just go do it! LOL.
Thanks for all of the good advice and encouragement.

Hope to see sandbomber there so I can play in the mud with him a little bit. Ya gotta give me a little head start though, I dont want to be roosted more than 90 % of the time by that tvi 720. LOL. Glenn can ride!
