I have a 400ex and want more top speed and power at high speed.I plan to put a xr650l motor (electric start) in my 400ex.
Is there anybody that can help me with this project???
Do I need to modify de frame?
What exhaust will fit etc...

Thanks in advance for your help.

A guy I went riding with last weekend put an XR600 motor in his 400ex. It ran pretty well but he did have to modify the frame in a few places. Most notably there is a bar that comes down from in front of the motor (near the steering stem) and connects to the engine cradle. It is a straight tube from the factory, he had to remove it and put one in that curved so it met the cradle further foward. I am sorry I didn't take any pics because it was a cool bike and very well done. By the way, he said the XR600 motor was 20lbs LIGHTER than the 400ex. The only thing he regrets is he lost reverse.

If he had a 400EX then he never lost reverse. If he had a 300EX then he lost reverse

I would always like to see an XR650R liquid cooled 650 in a 400ex.
but even a XR650L ari cooled would still be cool.
It wouldbt be that hard to modify, I know ALOT of people who modify frames to put bigger motors in for a living. We do all sorts of that stuff here in Quebec, we always like to have bigger motors.

I thoought that is what he said but I could be wrong. As you can tell I really have little interest in the four stroke quads, actually quads in general never really did it for me. I love my three wheelers.
