Make your own adjustable upper a-arms?
#1
Can a person make there own adj a-arms? Cut the factory mounting points and thread or weld a nut to the ends of the a-arm and find some heim joints to thread in. Is this not what the aftermarket a-arms are basicly? The cheap ones anyway. My ds has alot of camber, is the normal i.e the top of the wheels are closer together than the bottom. What would the idea caster, camber settings be? Are the arms off an 04 better in geometery or do guys just want them becouse they are aluminum?

hey sledhead, it's an interesting idea to just add on heim joints like that and i'm sure they would work ok, but the thing i've always heard about the early ds's were the bad front end geometry, and the best fix i've heard is to just upgrade to the newer 02-03? a arms, bomb changed the design alot in the couple years and you can tell the difference between the newer and older designs by the different bends in the tubing. so my point is that it would work of you had some ends made at a machine shop and welded in, and then you knew how to set up the fromt end right, but i'd just get a newer set of arms from a salvage place or ebay and go with that, if you got the $$ the go with timmy boy a arms, supposed to be the best there is for the DS, lates, josh...

I think it will be very easy to do and only cost me the price of the hiem joints. Or the arms if I screw them up. Is it worth looking for 04 arms. Do the ball joints and tie rods on my 01 fit into the 04 arms?

i'm pretty sure the ball joints and the tie rods would fit fine, the '04 a arm set, some of them has aluminum top a arms, i'd just get a '03 stock steel set and forget about it, no twitchyness like the earlier DS's had, but i'd still get the timmyboy a arms if i had the dough......lates, josh...

I thought the 03 still had the same caster setting and bomb changed only becouse it was easier on the assy line? Could I install just the uppers or would i have to get the lowers as well?
