i have a complete 250r top end that i am going to sell. it is in great shape, and is ported and polished by LRD. it is 250cc, and on its first bore...complete with piston, and all
email me at: trcagle@flash.net if interested

ebay often has complete lower ends for sale
just type in "250r" in the SEARCH box
hope this was a little help
a complete new engine from honda would break the bank!

I dont have one. I was talkin to my dad about all this stuff Id need to add to a 400EX to make it race ready and he said it sounds like itd be cheaper to build one from the ground up instead of throwing away all those stock parts. So if I was going to build one from the ground up Id want it to be a 250 2 stroke.

the 400 is to nice of a bike to butcher.why not just get a 250r to race. it would be cheaper than converting a 400 to a 250. by the time you get the whole thing done you'd be money ahead and still have a 400ex to ride.
just my opinion

the last motor i saw on ebay went for around $1000

I dont want to turn the 400 into a 250. I said if I was going to build one from the ground up I wanted it to be a 250, so Id have to buy a frame and stuff, but that might not be possible so I want to buy a 400EX and race it.

i misunderstood what you were saying.
good luck. 250's are out there if you look long enough (i found mine cheap)
if your good with your hands the motor and tranny are very easy to rebuild(it was for me).just make sure you have the genuine honda service manual

I'd be happy to build you a brand new 250R engine with all new parts if you are willing to pay for all of the parts and $100 of my labor! I have to tell you that it would definitely not be cheap. You could probably have one built out of used parts for around $1500 complete.
