Cool 1996 Polaris Sport 400

Hello everybody. I need to replace the engine in a 96 Polaris Sport 400. Does anyone know what models/years will also fit this quad? Trying to find something used and not sure which other models have compatible motors.

Should be able to use 1994-1999 Polaris Scrambler 400 or Trail blazer 400. Might have to do a little modifying but not sure. I personally haven't done one but just did some research.

Might just be cheaper. Any 400 engine will stab right into the frame with no problems, but trying to find a good complete one with no problems would be next to impossible unless it was already rebuilt. Any other engine than the 400 would require modifications to the mounting, plus the biggest problem is that you'd have to have electronics, wiring harness to match the engine you'd be changing it to. If you have a cracked case, bad cylinder, etc on yours, parts are always on ebay.

Yes, I was shopping ebay and wondering if the 400 Sportsman, Xpress, Xplorer or Scrambler would be compatible.

Basically all the 400s from 1994-2003 would be compatible. Slight difference over the years on carbs, jetting etc, and some electronics such as cdis, plus some intake manifold differences, but the basic engine didn't change over the years and you should be able to use all your existing electronics.
