Default 300EX vs. Mojave

Hi, I was reading this one forum which was saying that the Mojave would dominate the 300EX in all fields. Is this true. I was looking in to a 300EX but if they are slower and less reliable i dont want one.... HELP ME.... Tell me the 300EX is faster!

Default 300EX vs. Mojave

Grab an issue of May Dirtwheels for this shootout. It's actually a comparison of the 300EX vs. Trailblazer vs. Z-250 vx. Mojave vs. 250EX vs. Blaster.

The conclusion said, "As far as our staff of experienced riders is concerned, we picked the 300ex as the best entry-level quad of the bunch. The Mojave was not far behind and the Blaster is always a favorite for on-track activities."

Lap time results:
1st 300ex 1:43
2nd Mojave 1:46
3rd Blaster 1:47
4th Z-250 1:53
5th Trailblazer 1:53
6th 250es 1:56

Price:
Mojave $4099
300ex $4499
(and all the others are less expensive)

Handling:
Mojave is the best carver and has plushest suspension. 300ex is also good through the rough stuff but is a little top heavy in the twisties.

Power:
300ex and Mojave tie for the most bottom-end power. They don't like the reverse on the 300ex. 300ex has electric start, the Mojave is a kick start but they say it's really easy. "The Honda 300ex gets our vote for the best overall power and the blaster has the most exciting powerband."

Rider Friendly:
"The Mojave feels a bit cramped to a larger rider but is very easy to operate. The kick-starter is simple and clutch lever is a soft pull. If we had to point out any negatives on this machine it would be top spead. However, a gearing change would solve that dilemma in a hurry."

"If we could change two things on the 300ex it would be the revers procedure and the position of the choke lever...on the up side, the 300ex has plenty of power, plenty of suspension, and plenty of room to get comfortable. As with all Hondas, the levers are well-placed, the brakes are excellent and the reliability is a sure bet. The 300ex just edges out the Mojave in this category."

Well, that's pretty much the gist of the article, but I only mentioned highlights of just the two quads you were asking about. It's still a very interesting article to read. And this is just one source; I'm sure there are others to check out. I would highly doubt that the Honda is less reliable, I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed in that department, and they must not be slower according to this article. Mine clocked at 62mph on a dirt road (wind helping me) beside a Prairie 650 (with speedometer to tell me). Another day, with wind against me, it clocked at 53 (radar gun--probably a little more accurate!). I really like my 300ex. The power is great.

Good luck in your purchase, hope this helps.

i have a 300ex and my friend has a mojave. he is like half a mile faster than i am. but i have plusher suspension and better handling and can do better wheelies. i also think that honda has the leading edge on the reliability factor.

It is true that the aftermarket has more for the ex but you can still find about anything for the mojave and it has more potential than the 300. I am not starting a Honda Vs Kawi war as both are good but the mojave has many advantages over the 300. Double overhead cam, liquid cooling, better reverse, better handling ( but rougher ride), Round tubing frame that is much better than the 300 frame, and etc. reliability is as good as the Honda. when my mojave was stock about all i rode with was 300ex's that were stock or only piped and I could beat them all in a drag, MX, or trails. Stock top speed on the mojave is only 1 mph faster then the ex. so basically in speed and performance they are about equal, but the edge would have to go to the Mojave. As far as the Dirtwheels article goes, I would not believe them if they said quads had 4 wheels, they would some how twist it around to be wrong. As for modding a mojave, look in my project links below to see what can be done with one.

Both of the quads are getting a little long in the tooth. It is nice that the Mojave has liquid cooling but it doesn't have electric starting. This can be a pain in the butt at times. Kick, kick, kick, kick, kick, kick. Hey, do you mind pulling me to start it?
