YFZ450 or Raptor???
#1
I am going to be buying a new quad soon and I am torn between these two bikes. I ride at Oceano and sometimes do some dirt riding at LaGrange and in the mountains right around where I live. I really like the 450 but Im not too sure about how it does in the sand. The raptor is nice because its a grand cheaper than the 450. Give me some pros and cons on both so I can make my descission. Thanks!

ok sorry i came off a little bit biased
YFZ 450
PROs
2 stroke like hit and great low end, 350 lbs dry weight, great stock suspension setup, very noticable power gain with simple mods, the best 4 stroke MXer to date and that a fact. Doesnt suffer in any type of terrain trails, dunes, dirt, etc.
CONs
Misplaced ergonomics, hard seat, stiff thumb throttle, the size of the quad may be unconfortable to some people (especially ppl over 6 feet), weak stock tires, choked up stock exhaust, some people had incidents of battery probs.
Raptor 660R
PROs
very strong low end torque, comfy, broad powerband, reverse, 398 lbs is light for its class (other quads over 650cc weigh well over 425 lbs), great looks, very popular trail machine. Can get parts for anything.
CONs
High center of gravity, may feel bulky compared to YFZ, doesnt rev as high and doesnt hit as hard and yfz, less HP than yfz, doesnt respond that well to mods.

Don't know what kind of mod's you are doing to the Raptor, but a simple pipe, filter, and jet up with no lid will give you a awesome gain.
I got my 03' LE for 5900 otd. The yfz is right around 7000 otd here.

Well when I ride in the dunes I will have paddles on so I assume that the YFZ is my best fit. I sat on one at the dealer and it felt good. The rappy just feels so high. My only concern was that the yfz wouldnt do well in the sand but it sounds like it should do fine. Right??

yeah the yfz is a great dune machine and so is the raptor but its just what suits you better. the yfz is quicker and it floats over the sand better the raptor just has a huge torque spread. the raptor's seat height is quite high but most people do not seem to mind. maintenence wise i would guess the raptor is easier to take care of because of the lower compression and not as high tech stuff. but treat them both right and they will both do fine.
