Predator-Oil in airbox?
#1
I've got an "excessive" amount of oil coming out of the little sump in my airbox after riding... Can somebody experienced tell me what's the matter? It sometimes sounds like its pre-igniting or a pinging sound anyway, then dies from that. I haven't looked at my plug or anything, just wondering if this is obvious. Running pump gas, and have put some Gold Label in sometimes.

uhhh...I know its not good....but isn't about the only way you could get oil in the box from bad rings?? I don't know....you may try a search, I know this has come up before....maybe not on the pred though

I'm not really sure why it would be oil...make sure its not getting sucked into the box from somewhere else...and make sure that it isn't gas....after those, I would say that it could be your intake valve isn't seating corectly.

You could have bad rings,or anything that could let air into the crank case, thus causing oil to be pushed out...
I would do a compression test first see what the PSI is,then see if it will hold the pressure, also check the plug it should be a brownish tan(when jetted right)...
The pinging sound could mean your timing is to advanced,if your running the stock piston 10.8:1 ratio pump gas would be fine with no pre-ignition...

Have you done any wheelies, or climbed any steep hills? The oil in your air box may also be from doing either of those. Its not a very good design they have running their crankcase breather back into the airbox like they do. Any excessive incline causes the oil to go into the hose and into your filter box which maybe what you are seeing. Alot of people eliminate this by purchasing a crankcase breather and mounting it up somewhere by the carb on the frame; and then plug the airbox hole that the hose originally went into. K&N makes a good breather for about $15.... it's model # is 62-1010. As far as the ping then I would say trailrider has a good idea on what that maybe.

I'll have to do the compression test to be sure anyway, but I was doing some straight up and down riding, which is kinda normal, but I hadn't noticed the oil as much. Thanks for the advice guys.
