It sounds like the front shocks. When I am riding and the front wheels come off of the ground there is a loud banging sound. I checked the shocks and there is no sign of oil leaking and everything seams to be tight. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

I'ts not happening when the shocks are compressed. Only when fully extended.

I took the struts out and they are toast. I replaced the struts and it's like being on a new ATV.

I believe my 99 Sportsman is doing the same thing. How do you know when they are toast? How much are they to replace?

I bought Kimpex struts. I got them for $65.00 each from http://bigbuckrack.com/Kimpex_shocks.htm

Hotseat also sells them for $159.00 for the pair. http://www.hotseatperformance.com/psp/index.cfm?&DID=29

Polaris sells them for $99.99.

I took me about 1 hour to replace them. Pretty easy job. Check out this link for step by step instructions with pictures.

Madcap, thanks for the link with the step by step instructions. Looks a lot easier than I thought. Probably wouldn't have tried it myself if I hadn't seen that.
